BEA WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express 6.1, 7.0, and 8.1, with RMI and anonymous admin lookup enabled, allows remote attackers to obtain configuration information by accessing MBeanHome via the Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI).

The bug was discovered . The weakness was presented 01/12/2006 with BEA (Website). The advisory is shared at dev2dev.bea.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-1290 since 01/13/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 12403 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86730 (BEA WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express MBean Remote Information Disclosure Vulnerability).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at dev2dev.bea.com.
