The netlink_rcv_skb function in af_netlink.c in Linux kernel 2.6.14 and 2.6.15 allows local users to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a nlmsg_len field of 0.
The issue has been introduced in 10/27/2005. The weakness was presented 01/16/2006 by Martin Murray (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-0035 since 12/20/2005. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 76 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
