A vulnerability was found in phpMyAdmin up to 2.8.0.3 (Database Administration Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file themes/. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in phpMyAdmin before 2.8.0.3 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via unknown vectors in unspecified scripts in the themes directory.
The bug was discovered 04/06/2006. The weakness was shared 04/07/2006 by Toni Koivunen with CERT-FI (Website). The advisory is shared at phpmyadmin.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-1678 since 04/10/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
