Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.2.2b and 1.2.0 RC4 allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via a direct HTTP request to (1) phpinfo.php, (2) addpic.php, (3) config.php, (4) db_input.php, (5) displayecard.php, (6) ecard.php, (7) crop.inc.php, which reveal the full path in a PHP error message.
The weakness was disclosed 04/29/2004 by Janek Vind "waraxe" with waraxe as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2004-1984 since 05/04/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:phpinfo.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
