A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Apple Mac OS X Server up to 10.3.3 (Operating System). This affects an unknown code block of the component User Authentication. The manipulation of the argument PathName with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. Stack-based buffer overflow in AppleFileServer for Mac OS X 10.3.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a LoginExt packet for a Cleartext Password User Authentication Method (UAM) request with a PathName argument that includes an AFPName type string that is longer than the associated length field.
The bug was discovered 03/26/2004. The weakness was published 05/03/2004 by Dave G. and Dino Dai Zovi with @stake, Inc. as confirmed advisory (CERT.org).
