A vulnerability was found in PowerPortal 1.1b/1.3/1.3b. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file modules.php. The manipulation of the argument id/search/files with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in modules.php in PowerPortal 1.x allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary script or HTML via the (1) id parameter to the (a) private_messages module; (2) search parameter to the (b) links and (c) content modules; and (3) files parameter to the gallery module.
The weakness was released 08/06/2004 by DarkBicho (Website). The advisory is available at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-0663 since 07/12/2004. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
By approaching the search of inurl:modules.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 12292 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
