A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Microsoft SharePoint Team Services (Groupware Software) (affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:

Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint Team Services for Windows Server 2003 does not properly validate an HTTP redirection query, which allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTML and web script via a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack, or to spoof the web cache.

The bug was discovered 02/08/2005. The weakness was shared 05/02/2005 with Microsoft (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-0049 since 01/11/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 83 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90222 (Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Could Allow Cross-Site Scripting and Spoofing Attacks ( MS05-006)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 3265.
