Details
A vulnerability has been found in Digium Asterisk (Communications System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component MGCP Handler. The manipulation as part of a AUEP Reply leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Stack-based buffer overflow in channels/chan_mgcp.c in MGCP in Asterisk 1.0 through 1.2.10 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted audit endpoint (AUEP) response.
The bug was discovered 08/10/2006. The weakness was presented 08/24/2006 with Mu Security research team (Website). The advisory is shared for download at labs.musecurity.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-4345 since 08/24/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
