A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Symantec Veritas Backup Exec up to 9.0 (Backup Software). Affected is an unknown code of the file beserver.exe of the component RPC Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. VERITAS Backup Exec Server (beserver.exe) 9.0 through 10.0 for Windows allows remote unauthenticated attackers to modify the registry by calling methods to the RPC interface on TCP port 6106.

The bug was discovered 06/22/2005. The weakness was released 06/23/2005 by iDefense Labs with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov.
