A vulnerability was found in IBM WebSphere Application Server up to 6.1.0.2 (Application Server Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) before 6.0.2.13 allows context-dependent attackers to obtain sensitive information via unspecified vectors related to "JSP source code exposure" (PK23475), which occurs when ibm-web-ext.xmi sets fileServingEnabled to true or ExtendedDocumentRoot is used to place a JSP outside a WAR.file; (3) the First Failure Data Capture (ffdc) log file (PK24834); and (4) traces (PK25568), a different issue than CVE-2006-4137.
The bug was discovered 08/14/2006. The weakness was released 10/11/2006 with IBM (Website). The advisory is available at www-1.ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-4223 since 08/18/2006. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 87066 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Unspecified Information Disclosure (PK23475,PK24834,PK25568)).
