A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Adobe Flash Player up to 9.0.16 (Multimedia Player Software). This issue affects the function XML.addRequestHeader of the component HTTP XML Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. CRLF injection vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player plugin 9.0.16 and earlier for Windows, 7.0.63 and earlier for Linux, 7.x before 7.0 r67 for Solaris, and before 9.0.28.0 for Mac OS X, allows remote attackers to modify HTTP headers of client requests and conduct HTTP Request Splitting attacks via CRLF sequences in arguments to the ActionScript functions (1) XML.addRequestHeader and (2) XML.contentType. NOTE: the flexibility of the attack varies depending on the type of web browser being used.
The bug was discovered 10/17/2006. The weakness was released 10/19/2006 by Marc Bevand with Rapid7 (Website). The advisory is shared at rapid7.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-5330 since 10/17/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
