A vulnerability was found in OTRS up to 2.0.3 (Service Management Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the file text/html. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Open Ticket Request System (OTRS) 1.0.0 through 1.3.2 and 2.0.0 through 2.0.3, when AttachmentDownloadType is set to inline, renders text/html e-mail attachments as HTML in the browser when the queue moderator attempts to download the attachment, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary web script or HTML. NOTE: this particular issue is referred to as XSS by some sources.
The bug was discovered 10/17/2005. The weakness was shared 11/22/2005 by Moritz Naumann (Website). The advisory is shared at moritz-naumann.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-3895 since 11/29/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
