PostgreSQL 7.3 before 7.3.13, 7.4 before 7.4.16, 8.0 before 8.0.11, 8.1 before 8.1.7, and 8.2 before 8.2.2 allows attackers to disable certain checks for the data types of SQL function arguments, which allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (server crash) and possibly access database content.
The weakness was shared 02/05/2007 with Postresql Team (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at postgresql.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-0555 since 01/29/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at postgresql.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
