enet ENet library up to Jul 2005 protocol.c enet_protocol_handle_incoming_commands headercommandLength denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in enet ENet library up to Jul 2005 (Software Library). Affected by this issue is the function enet_protocol_handle_incoming_commands of the file protocol.c. The manipulation of the argument headercommandLength with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

Integer signedness error in the enet_protocol_handle_incoming_commands function in protocol.c for ENet library CVS version Jul 2005 and earlier, as used in products including (1) Cube, (2) Sauerbraten, and (3) Duke3d_w32, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a packet with a large command length value, which leads to an invalid memory access.

The weakness was disclosed 03/12/2006 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-1194 since 03/13/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (25157), Exploit-DB (27420), SecurityFocus (BID 17087†), OSVDB (23844†) and Secunia (SA19208†). The entry VDB-29163 is pretty similar. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
