Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in enet ENet library (Software Library) (affected version unknown). This affects the function enet_protocol_handle_send_fragment of the file protocol.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
The enet_protocol_handle_send_fragment function in protocol.c for ENet library CVS version Jul 2005 and earlier, as used in products including (1) Cube, (2) Sauerbraten, and (3) Duke3d_w32, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a packet fragment with a large total data size, which triggers an application abort when memory allocation fails.
The weakness was presented 03/12/2006 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-1195 since 03/13/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (25158), SecurityFocus (BID 17087†), OSVDB (23845†), Secunia (SA19208†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1015767†).
