A vulnerability was found in RealNetworks RealPlayer 10.0.6/10.5 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown functionality in the library swfformat.dll. Buffer overflow in swfformat.dll in multiple RealNetworks products and versions including RealPlayer 10.x, RealOne Player, Rhapsody 3, and Helix Player allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted SWF (Flash) file with (1) a a size value that is less than the actual size, or (2) other unspecified manipulations.
The bug was discovered 03/22/2006. The weakness was published 03/23/2006 by Greg MacManus (iDefense) with iDEFENSE Labs as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-0323 since 01/19/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. A public exploit has been developed in Perl. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
