Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 through 6 allows remote attackers to conduct phishing attacks by spoofing the address bar and other parts of the trust UI via unknown methods that allow "window content to persist" after the user has navigated to another site, aka the "Address Bar Spoofing Vulnerability." NOTE: this is a different vulnerability than CVE-2006-1626.
The weakness was disclosed 04/11/2006 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityreason.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-1192. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21210 (MS06-013: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (912812)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100034 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update Missing (MS06-013)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 4303.
