The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Buffer overflow in the asmrp_eval function in the RealMedia RTSP stream handler (asmrp.c) for Real Media input plugin, as used in (1) xine/xine-lib, (2) MPlayer 1.0rc1 and earlier, and possibly others, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code via a rulebook with a large number of rulematches.
The weakness was released 03/01/2007 by Roland Kay (Website). The advisory is available at mplayerhq.hu. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-6172 since 11/30/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
