Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the HTML filter in SquirrelMail 1.4.0 through 1.4.9a allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) data: URI in an HTML e-mail attachment or (2) various non-ASCII character sets that are not properly filtered when viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The bug was discovered 05/17/2007. The weakness was published 05/10/2007 by Tomas Kuliavas and Michael Jordon (Mikhail) with Mikhail Markin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at squirrelmail.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-1262 since 03/03/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
