CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 7 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing in the library Urlmon.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 and 6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by instantiating certain COM objects from Urlmon.dll, which triggers memory corruption during a call to the IObjectSafety function.

The weakness was released 06/12/2007 by Tom Cross with iDefense as MS07-033 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-0218 since 01/12/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25486 (MS07-033: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (933566)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100047 (Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (MS07-033)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS07-033 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 7928. In this case the pattern 79EAC9E7-BAF9-11CE-8C82-00AA004BA90B is used for detection.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (32106), Tenable (25486), SecurityFocus (BID 24372†), OSVDB (35348†) and Secunia (SA25627†).
