Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP SP2, when Outlook is installed, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) by calling the NewDefaultItem function of an OVCtl (OVCtl.OVCtl.1) ActiveX object, which triggers a null dereference.
The issue has been introduced in 03/22/2001. The weakness was released 07/19/2006 (Website). The advisory is available at browserfun.blogspot.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-3910 since 07/27/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
