A vulnerability was found in Apple QuickTime up to 7.1.5 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component QT4J Screenshot Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. QuickTime for Java in Apple Quicktime before 7.2 does not properly check permissions, which allows remote attackers to disable security controls and execute arbitrary code via crafted Java applets.
The bug was discovered 07/11/2007. The weakness was presented 07/12/2007 by David Vaartjes with Apple (Website). The advisory is shared at docs.info.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-2397 since 04/30/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
