A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Microsoft Excel 2000/2003/2004/XP SP3 (Spreadsheet Software). Affected by this vulnerability is the function rtWnDesk. Microsoft Excel in Office 2000 SP3, Office XP SP3, Office 2003 SP2, and Office 2004 for Mac allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a Workspace with a certain index value that triggers memory corruption.
The weakness was released 08/14/2007 by Dyon Balding with Microsoft as MS07-044 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-3890 since 07/19/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
