A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 2.6.x (Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function __block_prepare_write. The __block_prepare_write function in fs/buffer.c for Linux kernel 2.6.x before 2.6.13 does not properly clear buffers during certain error conditions, which allows local users to read portions of files that have been unlinked.

The bug was discovered 09/21/2006. The weakness was disclosed 10/12/2006 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.suse.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-4813 since 09/15/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
