Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 2.6.x (Operating System). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function init_journal. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
The Linux kernel 2.6.x up to 2.6.18, and possibly other versions, on Fedora Core 6 and possibly other operating systems, allows local users to cause a denial of service (crash) via a malformed gfs2 file stream that triggers a NULL pointer dereference in the init_journal function.
