A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (Web Browser) and classified as very critical. This issue affects the function script. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Unspecified vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via certain DHTML script functions, such as normalize, and "incorrectly created elements" that trigger memory corruption, aka "DHTML Script Function Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 03/22/2001. The weakness was released 12/12/2006 by Sam Thomas with Zero Day Initiative (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-5581. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
