The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-61. Multiple race conditions in Smb4K before 0.8.0 allow local users to (1) modify arbitrary files via unspecified manipulations of Smb4K s lock file, which is not properly handled by the remove_lock_file function in core/smb4kfileio.cpp, and (2) add lines to the sudoers file via a symlink attack on temporary files, which isn t properly handled by the writeFile function in core/smb4kfileio.cpp.

The bug was discovered 12/21/2006. The weakness was disclosed 02/03/2007 by Kees Cook (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.berlios.de. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-0472 since 01/24/2007. The exploitability is told to be difficult. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 44 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
