A vulnerability was found in PHP (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function chunk_split. Multiple integer overflows in the chunk_split function in PHP 5 before 5.2.3 and PHP 4 before 4.4.8 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or execute arbitrary code via the (1) chunks, (2) srclen, and (3) chunklen arguments.
The weakness was presented 01/03/2008 by Gerhard Wagner (Website). The advisory is shared at php.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-2872 since 05/29/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
