A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 7 (Web Browser). Affected by this vulnerability is the function animateMotion of the component SVG Image Handler. The weakness was released 02/12/2008 by Riley Hassell with ZDI as MS08-010 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-0076 since 01/03/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 801702 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100055 (Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS08-010)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS08-010 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
