A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apple QuickTime 7.4.4 (Multimedia Player Software). This affects an unknown part. The bug was discovered 04/02/2008. The weakness was disclosed 04/03/2008 by Chris Ries with Carnegie Mellon as HT1241 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2008-1015 since 02/26/2008. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It is declared as proof-of-concept. Upgrading to version 7.4.5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at apple.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5931.
