Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in implicit-objects.jsp in Apache Tomcat 5.0.0 through 5.0.30 and 5.5.0 through 5.5.17 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via certain header values.

The bug was discovered 05/09/2007. The weakness was disclosed 05/09/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-7195 since 04/18/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:implicit-objects.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 29916 (SuSE 10 Security Update : Geronimo (ZYPP Patch Number 4864)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 156089 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for Tomcat (ELSA-2007-0327)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published 9 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
