The sysfs_readdir function in the Linux kernel 2.6, as used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4.5 and other distributions, allows users to cause a denial of service (kernel OOPS) by dereferencing a null pointer to an inode in a dentry.
The bug was discovered 06/04/2007. The weakness was shared 06/04/2007 by LINUX with Linux Kernel Team (Website). The advisory is shared at ubuntu.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3104 since 06/07/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally.
