Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 6, and 7 does not properly handle objects that have been incorrectly initialized or deleted, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors, aka "Uninitialized Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 08/13/2008 by Tavis Ormandy with Microsoft as MS08-045 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2008-2256 since 05/16/2008. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
