Multiple integer overflows in Perl-Compatible Regular Expression (PCRE) library before 7.3 allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or execute arbitrary code via unspecified escape (backslash) sequences.
The bug was discovered 11/05/2007. The weakness was presented 11/07/2007 by Tavis Ormandy with Google Security Team (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-4766 since 09/10/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
