CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as critical has been identified in PCRE 6.0/6.1/7.3. This issue affects some unknown processing. Executing a manipulation can lead to infinite loop. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-4767. The attack may be launched remotely. There is no exploit available. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in PCRE 6.0/6.1/7.3 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

Perl-Compatible Regular Expression (PCRE) library before 7.3 does not properly compute the length of (1) a \p sequence, (2) a \P sequence, or (3) a \P{x} sequence, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop or crash) or execute arbitrary code.

The weakness was shared 11/07/2007 by Tavis Ormandy with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-4767 since 09/10/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 27629 (Debian DSA-1399-1 : pcre3 - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165048 (SUSE Security Update for pcre (SUSE-SA:2007:062)).

Upgrading to version 7.3 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (38277), Tenable (27629), SecurityFocus (BID 26346†), Secunia (SA27538†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-16786†). The entries VDB-35351, VDB-39605, VDB-39603 and VDB-39602 are related to this item. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
