Integer overflow in the svcauth_gss_get_principal function in lib/rpc/svc_auth_gss.c in MIT Kerberos 5 (krb5) allows remote attackers to have an unknown impact via a large length value for a GSS client name in an RPC request.

The weakness was presented 12/08/2007 with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-5902 since 11/09/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 46688 (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS / 8.04 LTS / 9.04 / 9.10 : krb5 vulnerabilities (USN-940-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
