The manipulation of the argument href with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the image map feature in JFreeChart 1.0.8 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) chart name or (2) chart tool tip text; or the (3) href, (4) shape, or (5) coords attribute of a chart area.
The bug was discovered 11/28/2007. The weakness was disclosed 12/06/2007 by Chad Loder (Website). The advisory is shared at jfreechart.svn.sourceforge.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-6306. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
