Stack-based buffer overflow in Image Raw in Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2, and Digital Camera RAW Compatibility before Update 2.0 for Aperture 2 and iPhoto 7.1.2, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Adobe Digital Negative (DNG) image.

The bug was discovered 03/18/2008. The weakness was disclosed 03/18/2008 by Clint Ruoho with Laconic Security (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-0987 since 02/26/2008. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 31605 (Mac OS X Multiple Vulnerabilities (Security Update 2008-002)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
