A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Operating System). This issue affects an unknown function of the component Wiki Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in ContentServer.py in the Wiki Server in Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 (aka Leopard) allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary files via ".." sequences in file attachments.
The bug was discovered 03/18/2008. The weakness was presented 03/18/2008 by CORE Security with Core Security Consulting Services (Website). The advisory is shared at coresecurity.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-1000 since 02/26/2008. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication.
