A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird up to 2.0.12 (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown code block of the component Event Handler. The bug was discovered 03/25/2008. The weakness was presented 03/27/2008 by Gregory Fleischer (moz_bug_r_a4) with Mozilla Developers (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-1234 since 03/10/2008. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 31684 (CentOS 4 / 5 : firefox (CESA-2008:0207)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165678 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update Mozilla Firefox (SUSE-SA:2008:019)).
Upgrading to version 1.1.8 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
