VLC before 0.8.6f allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted Cinepak file that triggers an out-of-bounds array access and memory corruption.

The bug was discovered 04/23/2008. The weakness was disclosed 04/25/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-1769 since 04/12/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
