A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Windows (Operating System) (affected version unknown). Untrusted search path vulnerability in the client in Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 5.2, 6.0, 6.1, and 7.0 allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse DLL in the current working directory, as demonstrated by a directory that contains a .rdp file, aka "Remote Desktop Insecure Library Loading Vulnerability."

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90689 (Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Client Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS11-017)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS11-017 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 10880.
