A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Wireshark up to 1.0.3 (Packet Analyzer Software). This issue affects an unknown code block of the file packet-usb.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-399. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
packet-usb.c in the USB dissector in Wireshark 0.99.7 through 1.0.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash or abort) via a malformed USB Request Block (URB).
The bug was discovered 10/20/2008. The weakness was released 10/22/2008 by David Maciejak (Mike) with Wireshark (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-4680. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
