Summary
A vulnerability was found in IBM WebSphere. It has been declared as problematic. This affects an unknown part of the component Application Server. Such manipulation leads to input validation. This vulnerability is documented as CVE-2012-0193. The attack can be executed remotely. Additionally, an exploit exists. It is advisable to implement a patch to correct this issue.
Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in IBM WebSphere (Application Server Software) (version now known). Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Application Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.0 through 6.0.2.43, 6.1 before 6.1.0.43, 7.0 before 7.0.0.23, and 8.0 before 8.0.0.3 computes hash values for form parameters without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) by sending many crafted parameters.
The weakness was released 01/17/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at www-304.ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-0193 since 12/14/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of allinurl:wps/portal/ login it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
