Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox before 3.6.26 and 4.x through 9.0, Thunderbird before 3.1.18 and 5.0 through 9.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.7 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors.
The weakness was published 01/31/2012 by Peter Van der Beken as MFSA2012-01 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-0442 since 01/09/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 840889 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119906 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2012:0079)).
