A vulnerability was found in Apache Struts 2.0.14/2.2.3 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as critical. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Apache Struts 2.0.14 and 2.2.3 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) name or (2) lastName parameter to struts2-showcase/person/editPerson.action, or the (3) clientName parameter to struts2-rest-showcase/orders.
The bug was discovered 07/21/2011. The weakness was published 02/01/2012 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-1006 since 02/06/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
