CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects the function ResizeSlots of the file jsarray.cpp of the component Javascript Engine. The manipulation of the argument incorrect with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-399. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The JavaScript engine in Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.7, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.21, and SeaMonkey 1.1.15 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via (1) a splice of an array that contains "some non-set elements," which causes jsarray.cpp to pass an incorrect argument to the ResizeSlots function, which triggers memory corruption; (2) vectors related to js_DecompileValueGenerator, jsopcode.cpp, __defineSetter__, and watch, which triggers an assertion failure or a segmentation fault; and (3) vectors related to gczeal, __defineSetter__, and watch, which triggers a hang.

The weakness was disclosed 03/04/2009 by Georgi Guninski (TippingPoint) with Zero Day Initiative as Bug 472787 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-0773 since 03/03/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 35789 (CentOS 4 / 5 : firefox (CESA-2009:0315)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 155946 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for Firefox (ELSA-2009-0315)).

Upgrading to version 2.0.0.19 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6222.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (49080), Tenable (35789), SecurityFocus (BID 33990†), OSVDB (52449†) and Secunia (SA34145†). The entries VDB-3935, VDB-46976, VDB-46975 and VDB-46974 are pretty similar. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
