A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple iTunes 10.5 (Multimedia Player Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the component WebKit. The weakness was released 03/07/2012 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as HT5191 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The public release was coordinated with Apple. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-2866 since 07/20/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58319 (Apple iTunes < 10.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities (credentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119974 (Apple iTunes Prior to 10.6 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-03-07-1)).
