properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The _dbus_validate_signature_with_reason function (dbus-marshal-validate.c) in D-Bus (aka DBus) before 1.2.14 uses incorrect logic to validate a basic type, which allows remote attackers to spoof a signature via a crafted key. NOTE: this is due to an incorrect fix for CVE-2008-3834.
The weakness was shared 04/27/2009 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at freedesktop.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-1189 since 03/31/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 39786 (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS / 8.04 LTS / 8.10 / 9.04 : dbus vulnerability (USN-799-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Ubuntu Local Security Checks.
