Multiple cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerabilities in MediaWiki 1.17.x before 1.17.3 and 1.18.x before 1.18.2 allow remote attackers to hijack the authentication of users with the block permission for requests that (1) block a user via a request to the Block module or (2) unblock a user via a request to the Unblock module.

The weakness was presented 03/22/2012 by Brion Vibber (Krenair) as not defined mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.wikimedia.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-1578 since 03/12/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation needs a authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
